Hands-on activities are very essential in learning mathematical
problems. It enable the students to apply the given problems in real life situation.
It uses any educational materials like scissors, paste, ruler, colored papers and etc.
Through this kind of activity, students will be more interested in the concepts and
elements of mathematics. it will be more easy for them to analyze the problem and solve
it correctly.
As a future Math teacher, learning the process in providing hands-on activities to
the students is a requirement. Edsci110M , Mathematics Instrumentation Workshop, a course
subject under the class of Dr. Ava Clare Marie O. Robles, aims to develop our potentials
in making hands-on activities and providing good classroom management.
I had the opportunity to learn new teaching strategies, which can be very helpful in my
profession someday.
We had Math Trail, checking of papers, making manipulatives like geo board, answering
logical problems, brain teasers, puzzles, lines and many more.
One good thing about this subject is that it highlights the way we manage ourselves and
the classroom when we are conducting our hands-on activity.
Dr. Robles, our professor, gives us the freedom on how to handle class. In other words,
each of us are given the chance to act as a teacher while we are giving the activity to our
classmates.
And I believe, its an effective style because, I was able to gained confidence, new ideas
and techniques. And I am very proud to say, that its my stepping stone to be an effective
math teacher not just by solving in the blackboard but also in giving hands-on activities.
